The death of black people at the hands of racists and fascists on the street was one of the key galvanising forces for the formation of youth movements in the towns and cities of Britain. Southall Youth Movement’s formation after the murder of Gurdip Singh Chaggar was only the first example. A youth movement of Bangladeshi youth was formed in the East End after the murder of Altab Ali.
